New Age Tattoos

By: Elaine Murray

Tattoos are works of art, an expression of self, and a statement of who you are. New Age Tattoos are particularly popular amongst the female population. Young women today are acquiring tattoos with a New Age theme as a fashion statement and for the extra meaning they embody.

We have entered the Aquarian Age where more and more, we feel connected not only to each other, but to every living thing on the planet. We are learning to love ourselves. We are taking responsibility for "self" and becoming aware that we create our own reality. Symbols such as tattoos are part of that statement of who we are. The following are some possible symbols to consider when seeking a New Age Tattoo:

  • The water bearer (the astrological symbol for the "Age of Aquarius.")
  • The number 33 (often associated with the Christ Consciousness...a sacred number)
  • A white lotus blossom (associated with the crown chakra and our connection with God.)
  • A Rose (many spiritual readings suggest looking into a rose...becoming "the rose.")
  • A Sunflower (always faces the sun. Follows the Light)
  • An ankh (Egyptian cross: symbol of immortality and continuity of life.)
  • Any power animal, such as a tiger. (If you have an animal totem, you will know yours.)
  • Any personal thing that empowers you.
  • Fairies (some of the many little elemental, who help look after Mother Earth.)
Creating your own art for a tattoo is also in keeping with the spirit of "New Age". A woman I know has done just that. She took her own drawings to her favourite New Age Tattoo artist for her personal art to be transferred onto her feminine arm, which already includes a tattoo representing Quan Yin. It is a work of art in progress.

Choose a tattoo that holds special meaning for you. Consider carefully the statement you wish to make in indelible ink. Your tattoo will be with you long into this New Age. Happy hunting.
